Agency – Former Premier League player Chris Sutton, who is also a former coach, has said that the influence of Argentine star Lionel Messi in the American Major Soccer League will not last long.
During a conversation, Sutton claimed that Messi’s influence in MLS will be short termed. Speaking on the Mail Sport’s podcast, he said the league needs to understand that Messi’s influence will not last long.
He said that because of Messi, the level of the league will improve, but after some time, the American league will return to its previous state. According to him, later the American League will again become a resting league for aging players.
He didn’t hesistate to project MLS league to be the destination for washed players. His projection is that Lionel Messi will not have the long-lasting impact on Major League Soccer.
“‘I think the MLS would like to think so, but I don’t think it will long term. Short term, they’ll have the Messi phase. And then when he’s had enough, it will go back to what it was before. It’s a league for, dare I say, washed up players. For European players who want to go to America for the lifestyle with the families at the end of their career.” ,Sutton said.
Messi rejected the mega offer from Saudi Arabia and decided to go to America. Messi signed a contract with Inter Miami of the Major Soccer League just last month. After the arrival of Messi, American football has attracted the attention of the whole world.
