Agency – Argentine star Lionel Messi, who left Europe and joined MLS club, is planning to win the treble with his new club Inter Miami. Messi, who has already won one title in the short time can win two more titles in the coming time.
Messi’s top performance led Miami to League Cup triump last month. In the competition that started after the arrival of Messi, Miami became the champion by remaining undefeated. Miami is also on a campaign to win the US Open Cup.
Miami defeated Cincinnati in the semi-finals of the US Cup to reach the finals. Now Miami will face the Houston Dynamo for the US Open Cup title. A Messi-inspired Miami will certainly be in no mood to lose that title.
Likewise, Miami has kept alive the possibility of winning the Major League Soccer Cup. After defeating Los Angeles FC, which is considered the strongest in the league, Miami appeared in the race to win the MLS Cup.
But it is definitely not easy. In order to win the MLS Cup, Miami will need to win back-to-back and reach the playoffs. Miami is currently in 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings. As of now miami has 25 points in 25 games of the season. Miami now has 9 games left.
According to the new format, the eighth and ninth placed teams can participate in the wild card round. From where the winners of that round will compete in the playoffs along with the top seven placed teams.
Miami is currently 8 points behind ninth-placed D.C. United and 10 points behind eighth-placed Montreal. Miami has played two fewer games than both team. Miami could qualify for the wild card round if they can continue winning streal.
Miami has not lost a game since Messi’s arrival. So Miami can certainly hope to make the playoffs. But only time will tell how successful Miami will be on that regards.
